Swamp Bottom Railroad

About Us
The Swamp Bottom Railroad was established in 1996. Construction began in late 1995 in the side yard of our home in Savanna, Illinois. We used the G Scale which is 1/29th through 1/24th scale.

Through the years we've continually added track and rolling stock plus engines. We presently have over 1,000 feet of laid track. This equates to about five and a half miles of scaled track.

We designed this Garden Railroad as a working railroad to keep alive the old time railroad heritage we had in Savanna, Illinois. This Garden Railroad is dedicated to my father John Goetz who worked on the Milwaukee Railroad for 35 years before retiring.

We run trains modeled from the late 1800's to the present time with both freight and passenger trains. There is very little in the area of Milwaukee Road train equipment as we are concentrating on the Burlington Northern - Santa Fe merger era.

We concentrate on rail cars hauling coal, grain, alcohol, ballast, and various commodities. At any given running, you can see steam and diesel trains depending on the era we are running that day on the inner and outer tracks of this Garden Railroad. The engines have digital sound boards for realisim.

We hope to have you stop by and visit our railroad and chat for awhile.
